I was asked by Hazel's mum if I could take some portraits of here for her birthday. We decided to meet at the beach in Budleigh and arranged to take some very relaxed portraits that were fun and not to staid.
Of course teenagers these days are more than used to being in front of a camera and so the session was really great, Hazel was great to work with and we produced some stunning photographs for both her and her mother. Budleigh beach is a great place to take family photographs, not too busy even during the high season and kinder to my cameras than the sand we have at many of our other beaches.
I have been taking family photographs for the last 15 years, I started off in a studio but soon found that the images were dull and boring , so I decided to take more of a documentary approach to it. With family photographs I tend to ask the families to get together either at their house or a pre arranged place, they do an activity and I document it, then we have time set aside for the more formal images.
